Merit may be totally unrelated to intelligence. Merit is always relative, to a given task.

If you are good at cursing and scaring the pants of people, then you make a good debt collector, but maybe not a good salesperson. And then we try to measure merit.

So is Ah Long or Ah Kow the better debt collector?

Ah Long is very fierce and he gets the hard cases, and potential knife fight cases, while Ah Kow is better at soft psychology and has a higher return rate too.

I told them I will rank them, like what our high ranking civil service does, by merit for their monthly bonus.

But I am in deep shit now, for I am a little scare of Ah Long too, but I cannot make Ah Kow unhappy too. Of course both Ah Long and Ah Kow never passed Pri 3, so no use trying to use their academic results. I got until this weekend to decide on their bonuses.

However I must say at least this is a good problem to be worried about.
