Singapore — Two days before they were slated to kick off the Asian leg of their tour, The Killers have cancelled the Asian leg of the tour due to ‘unforseen circumstances’.
The move is highly disappointing for fans in Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing and particularly Singapore — where tickets to the concert mostly sold out within the day.
Arts undergraduate Ailing woke up at 9a.m. exactly on the day that the tickets were released so that she could get her hands on a pair of first-tier tickets to the moshpit of The Killers gig.
“My boyfriend and I were either going to The Killers or Muse’s concert, and it was only after a long moment of hesitation that our choice swung towards The Killers,”
“Afterall, Muse had a gig in Singapore a while ago, and it was the first time that The Killers would be in Singapore. We were really looking forward to catching them in concert. I even memorized some lyrics for the sake of it!” she said.
Now, Ailing has to wait patiently for the refund for her tickets through her credit card. What was to her the main event of the week turned out to be a big disappointment instead.
However, she isn’t the most let down by The Killers’ decision to cancel their gig at the very last minute.
Some fans of The Killers from neighbouring countries such as Thailand have bought air tickets and hotel accomodation in order to watch the concert in Singapore. Now, the only refunds that they will be able to receive due to this late cancellation are for the concert tickets.
There were also a fair share of fans who bought the tickets through second-hand parties in internet forums. These fans will now have to sieve through their contact list to find the sellers of these tickets to claim their refund.
Others wanted a rescheduling of the gigs to Feburary. This comes after The Killers only moved to cancel the Asian leg of their tour, but would still be proceeding on with their gigs in Australia in Feburary.
Daryl Lee, a student at the La Selle College of Arts, wrote on The Killers Live in Singapore facebook page that he is a bit sore of the fact that The Killers would be proceeding on with the Australian bit of their tour and not Asia.
“Does Brandon predict he’ll get with grips of reality or his mom will get better within a month to continue the Australian tour?”
“Reschedule Singapore to February when I’m sure they have already been to Australia. I’m just saying if they really regard or care about their fans in Asia they’ll do so,”
“It’s the more logical thing after coming out and say their going hiatus is indefinitely which means it’s going to be a while before they drop by again.”
Others have sought to profit from the fact that the gig cancellation was not very well publicized, and spread mostly through Facebook fan groups and word of mouth.
One fan even posted on his twitter page the sale of four of his tickets to the Singapore concert for $50, offering them to unsuspecting fans who still have no idea that the concert is cancelled.
Needless to say, this fan will be most likely expecting his refund through his credit card and the buyer of his tickets will find it impossible not only to refund the tickets, but to also contact him once the purchase has gone through.
*Update 24th Jan 2010 / 3.00pm: The Killers have since added another gig in Australia on the 12th of Feb, following the cancellation of the Asian leg of their tour.

It's quite mean to make personal comments about Flowers' decisions. If anything, fans should bear their disappointment by hoping for the best for whatever personal problems the band are going through.
Also sorry.. but WTF… "I even remembered some lyrics"? I kind lawled at that one.
